Alors que j'avais déjà eu l'occasion de photographier des animaux dans la neige quelques années auparavant, ce projet m'est venu en tête un matin d'automne, en 2020. Alors que j'étais sorti afin de photographier des harles couronnés dans un étang proche de chez moi, les conditions n'étaient pas optimales. Ne voulant pas rentrer chez moi les mains vides, je me suis assis le long de la berge afin d'observer le comportement des quelques canards qui étaient présents. C'est alors qu'un canard colvert mâle est venu tout proche de moi et m'observait à partir d'une zone ombragée sur l'eau. Tout de suite, l'idée de capturer le portrait d'animaux sur fond blanc est venu à moi. Je voulais être en mesure de réaliser des photos sans arrière plan afin que l'animal soit le seul et unique sujet.

While I had already had the opportunity to photograph animals in the snow a few years before, this project came to mind one fall morning in 2020. While I was out photographing hooded mergansers in a pond near my home, the conditions were not optimal. Not wanting to go home empty-handed, I sat down along the shoreline to observe the behavior of the few ducks that were present. That's when a male mallard came very close to me and was watching me from a shaded area on the water. The idea of capturing the animals portrait on a white background came to me immediately since the background was in the sun and to photograph the duck's portrait, I had to overexpose it.
